Using the latest lingo at work can improve your standing, but can win you the label of being pretentious, according to research by Office Angels.

It found 2007’s essential office buzzwords are: Thought Grenade - explosive good ideas. Also popular was Let’s Sunset That  - bad ideas that never see the light of day again.

The research found that using phrases such as Blue Sky Thinking and Singing from the Same Hymn Sheet would be classed as an office jargon faux pas.

It found the workplace phrases to avoid at all costs are: Getting down with the kids, Open up your kimono, and Let’s raise the anchor and let this one drift.

Office Angels managing director David Clubb says: “Jargon is an inevitable part of office life and it’s interesting to see it evolve as new cultural influences and technological influences redefine how we speak. However, while trendy jargon may be used as a shortcut, clear, simple communication will never go out of fashion. My advice if in doubt is drop the jargon and simply say what you mean.”
