Government targets women and ethnic minorities
The government has launched a recruitment drive to improve diversity in the judiciary.
Lord chancellor Lord Falconer told Radio 4’s Today programme that he wanted judges to reflect today’s cosmopolitan society.
He said: “The aim here is to improve the diversity of the judges: more women, more judges from black and ethnic minority groups, more disabled judges as well.”
Just one in six of new female lawyers progress to become judges.
