Job plan criticised

NI Organisation’s figures doubted
A job creation scheme in Northern Ireland may only have created 10,000 additional jobs, despite costing over £500m during the nine years of its organisation.
The Jobskills programme has helped over 80,000 individuals, mainly young people, and a report from the Northern Ireland Audit Office (NIAO) claims about 60% of these now have found jobs.
But after taking into account people who would have found jobs anyway, or who held jobs that other people would have taken, the NIAO estimates that Jobskills is only creating 1,370 additional jobs for every 10,000 trainees.
The report also found that 29% of those who had found jobs were not using the skills they had gained through the scheme.
