Jesters wanted

Charity to revive ancient job

Do you enjoy wearing three-pronged hats, telling witty anecdotes and entertaining bored monarchs?

If your answer to this question is yes, then English Heritage has an ideal job for you.

The charity is advertising for jesters to entertain visitors to its historic castles.

The job advert read: “Jester wanted. Must be mirthful and prepared to work summer weekends in 2005. Must have own outfit (with bells). Bladder on stick provided if required.”

English Heritage wants to revive the occupation, which was abolished when Oliver Cromwell overthrew the monarchy more than 350 years ago.
