IT pay gap widens

IT staff better off down South

The overall narrowing of the North/South pay divide across the UK is simply not happening for IT staff, with the salary gap actually growing in this sector.

Across the whole of the British economy the pay gap has actually narrowed, but among IT professionals the difference has actually increased.

A study by ReThink Recruitment shows that the North/South pay gap increased by 2% in the last five years and currently stands at 35%.

Data from the survey shows that IT staff in the North earn an average of

£27,248 per year, compared to the £41,860 commanded by their Southern

counterparts.

However, the IT sector in the North has expanded three times faster and the survey predicts that the gap will soon start to shrink.
