German unemployment falls
29 August 2012
But economy is still stagnant
German unemployment fell by 36,000, almost reversing job losses September.
But the German economy is still in trouble and the news means that unemployment dropped by one percentage point to 11.6%.
Revised figures from August suggested the country’s labour market is improving slower than expected.
“With employment gains primarily in the subsidised sector, a true labour market turnaround appears elusive,” Sandra Petcov of Lehman Brothers told the FT.
