Early start for temps

Firm has labour ready

A US-owned recruitment company has found a novel solution to the problem of finding temporary workers at short notice.

Labor Ready’s temps turn up at the company’s 53 offices across the nation every morning at 5.30.

This ensures a pool of labour that is ready and waiting to work at a few minutes’ notice, solving the perennial problem of temps not turning up until the day after the client places a request.

A spokesman said: “This gives our customers immediate access to temporary workers they know are ready to work that day at little or no notice.”

Every temp has access to an on-site cash dispenser and can choose to gain sponsorship to pay for CSCS courses – the accreditation needed to work on most UK building sites.

The company claims that no worker would be expected to enter into a fixed contract with the firm in return for sponsorship.

Labor Ready opened its first office in the UK in Salford, Greater Manchester, in 1999 and has since doubled its turnover in the country from £8m to £16m.
