Early Santa treat for children

Pertemps lends a hand

Santa came early at a Birmingham school thanks to generous city workers.

Young pupils at Kingsthorne Primary School in Kingstanding were amazed to see gifts galore delivered by employees of Pertemps Employment Alliance, including Deb Nickless, Nicki Lewis-Downing and Ruby Watts.

Around £500 worth of toys and games were handed over to the children, paid for by Pertemps Employment Alliance (PEA) staff who each month contribute to a Give As You Earn scheme.

The toys will be used by pupils who attend a breakfast club every day at the school in Cranbourne Road. The club ensures that the children eat well at the start of each day. The menu includes cereals, yoghurts and fruit juices.

Head teacher Joyce Ludlow said the gifts were greeted with delight by the children who had written a wish-list of toys and games for the Breakfast Club.

She added: “A Breakfast Club has been running successfully at our school since October 2005. Set up by staff and parents working together and sponsored by Greggs, it provides a nutritious breakfast for 80 children each morning.

“Pertemps employees had visited the school to set up activities for parents who are keen to return to work, and the company wanted to support the community further. They were impressed by the way children of all ages interacted with each other in the morning and asked the Breakfast Club to provide a wish-list of toys for them.

“The children were delighted by an early Christmas surprise when Pertemps staff delivered £500 worth of games equipment for them to enjoy.”
