Diversity boost

Remploy in BT disabled move

UK telecoms giant BT has teamed up with Remploy Interwork, a firm specialising in securing work for the disabled, to help it increase the number of disabled people it has on its staff.

Remploy has already helped BT find 75 disabled people to work in its network of call centres. High street recruiters Hays and Manpower will also be assisting BT in its efforts to recruit more disabled staff.

The agreement with Remploy formalises a relationship BT has held with the firm for a number of years. BT will notify Remploy of vacancies and Remploy will then work with Hays and Manpower to find suitable disabled candidates. Remploy will then provide BT with any backup or support needed.

BT’s manager for contact centre offline operations Sue Lennox Lamb said: “It’s important to encourage diversity in our workforce.”

Remploy has forged similar agreements with a number of supermarket chains in the UK, including Asda, Tesco and Safeway.
