HM Revenues & Customs has launched a campaign to remind contractors in the construction industry that the new CIS (construction industry scheme) cards, which enables contractors to pay sub-contractors and help deal with taxes, will be implemented in eight weeks' time.

Yet construction recruiters are concerned about whether HMRC has the systems in place and working to cope with the change.

Martin Makinson, director of Bromak Construction Recruitment, told Recruiter: "Our biggest concern is whether the HMRC's computer database will be able to cope with the new system."

A spokesman for the HMRC told Recruiter: "Our IT systems have been designed to cope with the changes arising from new CIS. We can confirm that we are ready to go live on 6 April. Systems have been extensively tested but we will continue to test to ensure all is well."
