Courtenay's new strategy

HR recruiter reinvents itself

HR recruitment firm Courtenay has redrafted its business strategy to become more candidate-focused.

Courtenay, which is based in London and has been operating in the sector for more than 30 years, has also opted to use the internet to promote its services.

Director and general manager Gareth Jones told Recruiter that the firm had toughened its selection procedures but would also give advice to HR professionals to make them more employable.

The firm offers coaching and provides career maps for candidates, detailing what steps they can take to further their HR career.

Jones told Recruiter that the firm had invested tens of thousands of pounds in the company’s new look.

He has hired a team of new consultants and, although he maintains there have been no redundancies, several staff members not buying into the business plan have left.

Jones explained: “We reviewed our business last year in an attempt to redefine ourselves and have come up with an alternative to the traditional recruitment model. The amount we have invested is a hell of a lot for this industry.”

The company plans to use the internet to publicise the positions it has available. It hopes this will make it less reliant on placing recruitment advertisements in the trade press.
