£55k payout in Mortimer case

A former employee of the recruitment company Angela Mortimer has won £55,000 in compensation for unfair dismissal and sexual discrimination.

Deborah Harding had already won £15,000 from the firm for injury to feelings after her boss, John Mortimer, was ruled to have treated her unfairly after she became pregnant.

Mortimer was alleged to have told Harding that “a hazard of employing women is that they do become pregnant”.

Harding reached a settlement with Mortimer at a hearing at Woburn Place tribunal courts at the end of December.

A spokesman for Angela Mortimer refused to comment.
