Lack of career prospects hampering sector

Offices up and down the country have been doing their bit for charity with the BBC’s annual Children in Need campaign. However, recruitment in the charity sector is not proving as easy to organise.

A perceived lack of career prospects means many voluntary sector organisations have difficulty both recruiting and retaining staff, according to new research.

The Remuneration Economics’ Annual Voluntary Sector Survey found that almost six in 10 firms had trouble finding the right people. The amount of firms that found it hard to hold on to staff jumped to 55%, from just over 40% last year.

The main reason cited by charities for their recruitment problems was a lack of career development.
