Capita wins £1.1m vetting contract
Capita acts as Criminal Record Bureau umbrella body
Capita Recruitment Vetting Service has won a contract to act as a Criminal Records Bureau umbrella body and to process Disclosure Scotland Checks for Approved Driving Instructors in Scotland on behalf of the Driving Standards Agency (DSA).
The contract will last for three years with an option of an extension of up to two years. The annual value of the contract is approximately £1.1m based on an estimated 21,500 checks per year.
Rosemary Thew, DSA chief executive, says: “People wanting to become driving instructors will have to pass a criminal record check prior to starting the qualification process. The checks are part of their ‘fit and proper’ requirement. Capita Recruitment Vetting Service is a well-known and respected deliverer of CRB checks. We are looking forward to working with them and ensuring our standards of safeguarding learner drivers are as high as possible.”
To obtain checks for staff directly with the CRB, smaller organisations must request a minimum of 100 checks per year and become a Registered Body with the CRB. Those that don’t meet the minimum requirement use umbrella bodies, like Capita Recruitment Vetting Service, to handle this for them.
