Recruitment firm Adecco has completed the recruitment of over 8,000 permanent and temporary employees for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The company processed 218,000 applications for the jobs – an average of around 27 applicants per job – which ranged from roles such as IT, finance specialists, lawyers, medical personnel and stewards, to more interestingly-named roles such as ‘head of flags’, ‘head of badminton’ and board-level roles such as a director of paralympic integration.

According to a media statement, Adecco also claims to have succeeded in “exceeding the high-profile and challenging diversity targets of LOCOG [the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games]”.

Peter Searle, head of Adecco UK & Ireland, says: “Those involved in London 2012 will be in a strong position in the job market thanks to the experience gained through the Games. We’ll continue to work with LOCOG to place people in permanent jobs or by making our new recruiting tools available to employers beyond 2012.”

Searle also notes that Adecco Group as a whole will continue to be involved with the Olympic Movement through the Athlete Career Programme (ACP) it delivers for the International Olympic Committee (IOC), designed to assist athletes around the world with a smooth transition into life after sport.
