Pilot scheme targets Asians
The NHS has given the go-ahead for a £9m campaign to recruit nurses from among the country’s Asian community.
The NHS pilot recruitment scheme in Slough, Berkshire, is visiting mosques, schools and Asian women’s groups in an attempt to change cultural attitudes towards the health profession.
The Slough project has also translated a NHS recruitment video into the Mirpur Punjabi dialect, as reported in the latest issue of Nursing Standard.
Its target is to recruit 40 nurses over two years, although so far only two people have started courses.
