New laws raise potential payouts
Limits on payment and awards at employment tribunals have changed under new laws in effect from 1 February.
The maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal has been raised from £51,700 to £52,600. In cases where the employee is dismissed because of discrimination or selected for redundancy for reasons connected with health and safety matters or public interest disclosure, there is still no limit to the award. The minimum basic award for unfair dismissal is £3,400.
Increases apply only where the event giving rise to the entitlement took place on or after 1 February 2002.
