A significant slowdown in GDP growth may have a less dramatic impact upon the number of new jobs created in Singapore this year, economists predict.

Estimates collated by The Straits Times suggest job creation this year will be in the range of 86,000 and 115,000, down from 122,600 last year.The first quarter of the year saw 27,200 new jobs created, recruiter.co.uk reported previously, with unemployment rising from 2% to 2.1%.

This year, GDP growth will be somewhere between 1% and 3%, the paper notes, having stood at 4.9% last year.

In 2010, it adds, GDP grew by 14.8% and 115,900 jobs were created.
