Indian shooter Gagan Narang must have been doubly satisfied with the bronze medal he won in yesterday’s 10m Air Rifle event at the Olympics – his country’s sports minister Ajay Maken offered him a job as a result.

The medal was India’s first at these Games. All of India’s 83 Olympians in the 2012 Games will be given some sort of role within the Sports Authority of India (SIA), reports Reuters, as part of a drive to recruit 400 coaches to fill vacant positions.

However as a medallist Narang, currently employed by airline Air India, was offered the role as a ‘Group A employee’, a higher level than those heading back home at the end of the fortnight without a medal.

The job offer is also open to athletes and medallists at other competitions including the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games and individual sports’ World Championships.

Alongside his new piece of silverware and job, Narang is also to have an upcoming “tablet and domestic robot” produced by electronics maker Milagrow named after him, India’s The Economic Times reported.
