Technology and analytics firm IBM intends to employ up to 1,000 people in its new Costa Rica delivery centre by 2014, as part of a 10-year, $300m (£192m) investment.

Technology and analytics firm IBM intends to employ up to 1,000 people in its new Costa Rica delivery centre by 2014, as part of a 10-year, $300m (£192m) investment.
The new centre will provide cloud infrastructure support and management, particularly for Latin American clients.IBM has workers in over 170 countries worldwide and has been in Costa Rica since 2004.
James Rutledge, vice president of IBM Latin America for global delivery, says: “With this centre, IBM helps position Costa Rica as a regional IT leader, acknowledging the skills and ability of its local talent to offer leading-edge services to clients.”
As part of the investment, IBM is also working jointly with public and private universities, the Costa Rica Investment Promotion Agency (CINDE) and the government to provide academia with technology, knowledge and access to specialised software as part of the IBM University Program.
