UK business confidence has reached its lowest point this year, reports accountants and business advisers BDO.

The company’s optimism index dropped below the “crucial 95 mark” to 93.5 in June, having sat at 95.5 in May, according to the survey of 11,000 UK companies employing a combined total of 5m people.Confidence had particularly weakened in the manufacturing sector, dropping from 96.5 in May to 83.8, the lowest reading since March 2009.

The report also saw the biggest monthly fall in the BDO Output Index in a year, as it dropped from 96.7 to 94.8.
