Pharmaceutical group Abbott, computer gaming firm Big Fish Games and technology company Hewlett Packard are due to create 500 jobs between them, reports broadcaster RTE.

The three firms will offer the new positions in four cities across the country following investment from development agency IDA Ireland.Hewlett Packard will be taking on 150 new research & development (R&D) roles, and a further 130 technical and support roles in Galway and Leixlip, County Kildare, according to RTE.

Abbott brings 175 engineering and science roles to Sligo, with some roles created immediately and others in 2014.

Big Fish Games will create 30 R&D jobs in Cork.
