Time to give green light to licensing?

Rogue gangmasters seem to be more and more in the news, with every new revocation calling the wider recruitment industry into question. Colin Cottell investigates whether it is time for the industry to be licensed

A recent report at the Wilberforce Institute at the University of Hull endorsed the GLA’s approach. “Not only has the GLA brought many labour providers into the formal economy, licensing some 1,230 gangmasters by June 2009, it is clear that by so doing, the GLA is substantially raising standards and working practices,” said the report.
