Immediate vacancy: Mobile phone destruction tester at TigerMobiles
Got a candidate who loves tech but also loves breaking stuff? If so, then TigerMobiles.com might have the perfect job for them.
The mobile phone comparison site is recruiting for a person to test the latest smartphones to destruction, all in the name of helping customers make better decisions.
The job description states: “We’re tired of boring mobile phone reviews, so we’re looking for something a bit different. And more explody. With possible fire. Whatever. We’re not foolish enough to try this ourselves, so we’re looking for a test subject (no team member, sorry) to come do it for us. It’s probably not that dangerous (although the word destruction does appear in the job title, so…).”
TigerMobiles.com’s head of customer insight Brandon Ackroyd said in a statement: "This is probably the most unusual role we have ever recruited for but it’s also one of the most important.”
All he asks is that the phones are tested “to the extreme”. “Nights out, hikes in the country, drop tests in the bath – nothing is off limits.”
The job description also says the successful applicant will receive an all-expenses paid night out and a free “cheeky Nandos” for every smartphone they test.
Drinking on the job is also encouraged.
And looks as though it could be quite a lucrative gig – the workload is expected to be between six and 10 phones per year, with flexible working hours, the ability to work from anywhere in the UK and a pro-rata salary of an impressive £36.5k per annum.
But it’s not all fun and games. The person will also have to provide a full written review of their experiences with pictures.
Better be quick – the vacancy will be closed “as soon as sufficient applicants have been received”.
Maybe get your candidate to apply themselves though – a small note at the bottom of the application page reads: “Strictly NO AGENCIES please.”
