Like many, I rarely do my Christmas shopping until the last minute. According to KPMG, 41 per cent of us complete our present buying in the week before Christmas.

Last year, I was rewarded for my lateness with lots of half-price bargains. But the several million shoppers after a specific toy or highly sought-after gadget could be in for a disappointment.
