Domestic and European legislation has been forcing manufacturers to re-examine their use of packaging material. The relevant laws aim to make companies cut down on the waste they produce and, where waste is unavoidable, to recycle as much of it as possible. But to treat packaging waste in isolation can simply increase problems elsewhere in the logistics chain....
