Jamaica has had some difficult times in the last few decades. But tough fiscal policy and determined local businesses are beginning to turn things around

After a period of instability, Jamaica’s economy is beginning to recover. Stringent fiscal measures have reduced inflation and promoted economic growth, as set out in the National Industrial Policy. Interest rates, at 50 per cent and above in the 90s, have fallen to less than 20 per cent. Inflation of 6.1 per cent compares to a high of 15.8 per cent in 1996.
