The New Electricity Trading Arrangements, delayed from last year, come into force later this month. Martin Rawlings explains how they will affect energy buyers and what it means for the market

Later this month, the current trading arrangements for electricity in England and Wales will be replaced by a new system. The New Electricity Trading Arrangements, or Neta, should, in concrete terms, bring a greater element of competition into electricity supplies, remove some of the uncertainty in the marketplace and take 10 per cent off prices.
