UK purchasers expect the arrival of the European single currency on 1 January to bring greater transparency but are divided on whether it will mean lower prices. David Arminas reports on the results of the Visa/Supply Management survey

On the first day of 2002, the entire populations of the 11 members of the European Union’s euro-zone will be grappling with the euro notes and coins released on that day. Outside the zone, Britain will still be hotly debating the advantages and disadvantages of joining the single currency.
