Contrary to what some may think, coding systems are used to simplify rather than confuse

Everybody uses, or is exposed to, coding systems. At work, stock codes are used, or each item of income and expenditure is coded for a computerised accounts system. Many of us drive to work in a car that has a unique registration number, and we have licenses with unique driver numbers. At the shops, each product has a bar code.
