When Europe’s competition rules expire in May, several sectors are likely to lose their special block exemptions under the new laws. Steven Norris and Jonathan Stafford examine the proposed changes

The European Union’s competition rules expire on 31 May and will be replaced by new ones on 1 June. The main change affects sectors that have separate exemptions under the current laws, such as the motor industry, as they will no longer be governed by special rules.
