Buyers have designs on efficiency

To meet demands for shorter lead times, companies including Rolls-Royce have turned to closer relationships with fewer contractors. David Arminas reports

Development of the Trent 1000 engine by Rolls-Royce will coincide with a change in its supplier relationships, as the company tries to reduce their numbers and build closer ties with them. This is an important deal for Rolls-Royce as the engines will be used on Boeing’s new 787 Dreamliner aircraft, due for launch in 2008.
