Tokyo and London are the most costly places to live

Tokyo is the most expensive city in the world, a position it also held last year, according to research carried out by Mercer Human Resource Consulting. London is the second dearest place to live, replacing Moscow, which now comes in third.

Mercer’s Worldwide Cost of Living Survey 2004 covers 144 cities and is based on the price of more than 200 items including housing, clothing and travel. Appreciation of the pound against the dollar, plus high accommodation prices, have made London the most expensive city in Europe this year – it was 7th in 2003.

Switzerland and Russia both contribute two cities...
