Thousands face fines for missing tax deadline

Inland Revenue figures show that 890,000 people failed to return their tax returns on time this year – almost ten per cent of the total number of returns due.

According to the Inland Revenue, 8.58 million self-assessment tax returns for the 2002-2003 tax year were received by the 31 January deadline, out of a total of 9.47 million.
