Think-tank calls for openness in PFI contracts

Details of procurement in private finance initiative (PFI) projects are still shrouded in secrecy, according to new research from the Institute of Public Policy Research (IPPR).

The think-tank surveyed 22 random public-sector projects, looking at access to PFI project documents.

The best response came from the NHS, which released nine out of 10 documents on its projects. But only five of the 10 local government documents and four of the 10 PFI school project documents requested were supplied, and none of the six central government...
