Sainsbury’s hires director of supply to improve stock

Lawrence Christensen has been appointed director of supply chain at troubled supermarket giant Sainsbury’s.

He replaces Martin White at a time when the company admits that weaknesses in its supply chain sometimes leave it struggling to fill supermarket shelves.

He has signed a contract for 16 months, lasting until January 2006, during which time he will also have to recruit his own long-term replacement.
