Oldest accounting body celebrates milestone

Accountants from across the globe are gathering in Scotland today to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the world’s first professional accountancy body – the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).

Representatives from as far as Hong Kong, Australia and the USA will meet in Edinburgh today, but it was 150 years ago that a Royal Charter was signed in 1854 which incorporated The Society of Accountants in Edinburgh -– today known as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).
