BT and Commerce One today announced a software licensing deal to establish a major UK business-to-business electronic marketplace for indirect goods. The deal will offer buyers and suppliers “significant cost reductions” over established trading methods for goods and services such as travel and maintenance services. Buyers will be able to track orders from a range of sellers by accessing one site. BT says that the indirect goods e-commerce market will grow to $45 billion by 2001. Chuck Donchess, vice-president of marketing and business development at Commerce One, told SM: “With other players in this market like Infobank we are in a position of ‘co-opetition’; while we are not announcing a partnership, it is our intention to announce one in the near future.”
