Interest rates up again

The UK interest rate has risen another 0.25 percentage points to 4.5 per cent, following a meeting of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).

Interest rates increased 0.25 per cent last month, and the decision for a further increase was made ‘because global economic recover is continuing and official data and business surveys suggest that output growth remains around or above trend’, according to a Bank of England statement.
