Growth in profits for financial firms

Profitability of companies in the financial services industry rose at its fastest rate for three years in the last quarter of 2003, according to a survey by the CBI and PwC.

Overall profitability in the sector rose at its fastest rate since September 2000 and is expected to continue to rise during the next three months.
