Fraud cases up in 2003

Almost twice as many fraud cases were recorded last year than in 2002, according to the latest KPMG Fraud Barometer.

In 2003, a total of 153 fraud cases were recorded, compared to 83 in 2002. As in previous years, London reported the most fraud (40), followed by the Midlands (30) and the north west of England (22).

But despite a rise in the number of cases reported, the total cost of fraud was £374 million last year, far less than the £716 million figure recorded in 2002. The...
