Call to extend industry code to other retailers_2

Suppliers are pressing for a new code of conduct for supermarkets to cover other retailers.

The Department of Trade and Industry code, which sets out the mediation process between suppliers and the four leading supermarkets, took effect last week.

The National Farmers’ Union (NFU), representing UK producers and suppliers of agricultural supplies, has persuaded many retailers not covered by the code to use it voluntarily.
