Beware of fake invoice scam

Small and medium sized businesses should watch out for fake invoices arriving over the summer months, warns the Advertising Standards Authority.

The ASA says the scam – operated by rogue traders in Switzerland, Austria and the Czech Republic – tries to take advantage of senior management being on holiday by tricking junior employees into paying what looks like an urgent invoice.

But by paying the fake invoice the company could be signing up to a contract that forces further payments for years.
