BA buttons down cheaper uniform

British Airways has slashed the cost of designing, manufacturing and distributing its new uniform to half the original 2001 budget.

The airline won't say how much it spends on uniforms, citing commercial confidentiality, but claims it has saved 30 per cent on unit costs.

"BA has been going through a torrid time in recent years and we had to look to reduce costs where possible," said David Crawford, its uniforms procurement manager.
