Tesco slams court over jeans verdict_2

Tesco’s senior sourcing manager has hit back at the European Court of Justice’s “politically based” decision to back Levi Strauss’ claim against the supermarket’s sale of cut-price jeans imported into Europe.

The court ruled that retailers must get the unequivocal consent of trademark holders to source from the so-called “grey market”, outside European Economic Area (EEA).

Many of the Levi jeans sold by Tesco since it began sourcing from the grey market in 1997 had come from suppliers importing the goods from outside the EEA, a practice known as parallel importing....
