Major companies make IT outsourcing moves_3

Retail chain Sainsbury’s, along with oil company BP and aero-engine maker Rolls-Royce, is poised to outsource its IT as part of a growing trend to hive off what is seen as a potentially problematic area of expertise.

Sainsbury’s will transfer its IT to Andersen Consulting from this month. The retailer, which spends more than £200 million a year on IT and employs 800 IT staff, has said its existing systems are hampering performance.
