Online firms fall short of e-commerce hurdle

Despite government claims that the number of companies online has topped one million, only seven out of 10 of them are involved in e-procurement.

Speaking at a London business breakfast meeting recently, Andrew Pinder, the government e-envoy, said it had exceeded its target to get a million businesses online this year. But he added that selling e-procurement was the next challenge. "The real issue is the amount that are actually doing e-commerce online - that number is around 700,000."
