E-auctions may cut flexibility on hotel stays

Buyers should beware when bidding for hotel rooms in e-auctions, warned Richard Plummer, senior partner at consultancy the Corporate Travel Partnership.

Travel purchasers could end up with no flexibility on times of occupation, upgrade and relocation opportunities, or links to city centres and airports.

“For a successful e-auction, buyers must be able to define the product precisely,” said Plummer.

E-auctions also force the buyer to think about the trip’s details, he added.
