A man arrested last week in Norwich as part of an ongoing multi-agency inquiry into the suspected exploitation of workers and other criminal activity of a gang in Norwich has been released on police bail.
The 23-year-old man is set to reappear at Wymondham Police Investigation Centre on 2 September, a Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA) spokesman told Recruiter this morning (22 July).
Officers from the GLA joined forces with Norfolk Police, Norwich City Council and the UK Border Agency to raid three properties in Norwich simultaneously and arrest the man on suspicion of fraud by false representation.
The searches were part of a police ‘day of action’ in Norwich, a GLA statement said, and came after “months of investigative work into the activities of [a] Lithuanian gang operating in the north of the city”. The statement said that the gang may be involved in supplying workers for both agriculture and food processing without a licence.
