Alf Ramsey appointment letter goes up for auction
18 June 2018
A letter confirming the recruitment of England’s only World Cup-winning manager, Sir Alf Ramsey, is being put up for auction today.
As England kick off today’s bid to emulate the all-conquering heroes of 1966, the BBC reports the letter is being offered at Clarke and Simpson auction house in Framlingham, Suffolk.
The letter, which has an estimate of £600-£800, is one of 30 lots from the estate of Ramsey’s widow Lady Victoria Ramsey, who died in March.
It is dated 26 October 1962, signed by then Football Association secretary Dennis Follows, and details a salary of £4,500, rising annually by £100 increments to a maximum of £5,000.
